The 14th MEETES’09 concluded with unprecedented success. This four day educational show catered to over 15,000 visitors, which nearly doubled the figure of the previous year. A third of these visitors were students and parents who are seeking information about studying abroad. Visitor satisfaction with the show was impressively high. 95% of all visitors said they had achieved the purpose of their visit and 92% had expressed their intention to return to MEETES in 2010.
IETEX 2009 showcased another great educational exhibition in Dammam, the capital and largest city in the Eastern Province (and the third largest city in Saudi Arabia after Riyadh and Jeddah). IETEX 2009 achieved a 30% increase in number of participants compared to that of the previous year. The eastern province, with abundant oil and natural resources and educational funding from the government, continues to be the region with a huge potential for international education.
RETEX and SETEX each catered to over 50 exhibitors in their 2nd year of showcasing education and training programs. Riyadh, the nation’s capital (home to 5 million people), recently has over 2 billion Saudi Riyals invested in national education sector.

OVERVIEW
The Canadian Education Network in partnership with the Al-Harithy Exhibitions Company, the Dhahran International Exhibitions Co. and Exhibitor Orbits present The 2010 Saudi Arabian Educational Marketing Tour. This year’s tour includes the 15th Middle East Education, Training, Equipment, and Solutions Exhibition & Symposium (MEETES’10) to be held in Jeddah, the 3rd Riyadh Exhibition for Education and Training (RETEX) in Riyadh, and the 5th Saudi International Education & Training Exhibition (IETEX) to be held in Dammam. The most popular exhibition, MEETES (in Jeddah) represents an exceptionally effective marketing opportunity for Canadian Educational Institutions in the Western province of Saudi Arabia. RETEX (in Riyadh) and IETEX (in Dammam) round out the tour by offering educational institutions an opportunity to create a presence in the Central and Eastern provinces of Saudi Arabia. In total, the three exhibitions offer Canadian institutions the opportunity to present their programs in three of the major regions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
MARKET ANALYSIS: Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia represents the most dynamic market in the Gulf Region. Based on population size and general affluence in the country, Saudi Arabia has emerged as a key educational market. In addition to this, the Saudi Arabian government has recently increased educational funding dramatically. Of particular interest to educational institutions is the MOHE scholarship program, which provides complete financial support to a student choosing to study abroad. This support includes living expenses, English language preparation fees, tuition and other fees. In order for students to take advantage of this program they need only present an acceptance letter to the government, whether it be a full or conditional acceptance, issued by a post secondary institution. On another note, over the past few years, we have also witnessed a distinct increase in the approval of study permits for Saudi Arabian students.
CEN is devoted to its work in Saudi Arabia, and believes strongly in the potential of the market. With over 16 years of experience working in the Gulf region, CEN has integrated itself into the country, by developing strong ties through sponsorship, partnership and networking. CEN has emerged as an authority in the Gulf and especially in Saudi Arabia, and is committed to providing support and assistance to Canadian institutions looking to pursue marketing initiatives in the country.
